Organisation, culture
We have an informal culture and a flat organisation without multiple hierarchical layers. We do not have bureaucratic hurdles to decision-making and action.

TIC is a multi-disciplinary organisation. The company's basic competencies are in editorial and content creation work; software; and visual design. As part of our growth strategy, we are building marketing and HR competencies.

Each area of competence contributes to our different businesses, and there are strong synergies between our three main divisions. This requires people with different competencies to work together as one team.

Our team members always give the full perspective of a project to which they are assigned. This not only enhances their job satisfaction levels and adds to the learning process, it also enables TIC to meet customer requirements effectively, quickly and in an integrated manner, and to service them efficiently.

Multi-tasking
TIC's web solutions, software service and editorial and design staff works in unison on our business process outsourcing and design projects to build long-term relationships with our reputed clients. The work done by this staff is critical to our ability to deliver value to our quality-conscious clients.

TIC has implemented multi-tasking, in which many of our team members have capabilities to do more than one type of task - and do it well. We have editorial staff with design capabilities; design staff with software capabilities; software people with research skills; and client servicing staff with, research, editorial and design experience.

We encourage multi-tasking and competence building through training programmes and through constant discussions and reviews in which all team members participate. Multi-tasking enhances productivity as well as job satisfaction, and enables TIC to do work that in other organisations may require nearly double the staff. It also helps TIC ensure quality and delivery.

Competencies

Business development, marketing & sales - identifying markets and market segments, product planning and management, promotion, networking, selling
Client servicing - account management (soliciting new business from clients and potential clients, preparing proposals, making presentations, understanding and determining client needs and the way in which TIC can best meet those needs, representing client needs to TIC staff, problem solving, coordination).
Editorial - research, interviewing, writing, rewriting, editing, editorial planning. Requires good domain knowledge of industry sectors, business management issues, marketing, financial markets and economics.
Software - research, product development and service (including system analysis, flow-charting and documentation, application development, software coding, testing). Requires previous project experience plus expertise on Windows, Oracle and Internet platforms.
Strategic & operational research & consulting - in the web solutions and software applications areas (includes tracking business and technology trends, responding to client requests, benchmarking, online operations audit, business process mapping and reengineering, and usability engineering). Requires consulting & research for TIC products and services as well as for clients; requires good domain knowledge of industry sectors, business processes and technology.
Support - finance, admin - managing the accounts and finances of the company, plus dealing with taxation and legal issues. Requires analytical skills and knowledge of all corporate compliance issues.
Support - HR - recruitment, training, administration. Requires analytical as well as people skills.

Visual design - designing, visualisation and implementation of design for online, print and multimedia projects. Requires imagination, good visualisation skills, and familiarity with a wide gamut of commercial art (including online, print, multimedia, video and sound), besides expertise in using computer graphics programs.

Culture

TIC works as a flat organisation, in which every person in the organisation participates in both the planning and implementation stages of operations. The organisational culture is informal and the company works like one large family.

Multi-tasking

The management also believes in multi-tasking and project-oriented deployment of people.

It has consciously trained people for this, so that some editors create designs (some of which are among the best in the Indian Web scene), other editors look after client relationships, writers make pages, designers write basic software, software and marketing people assist in HR, procurement and administration, and the accounts head looks after admin and procurement.
